You’re not (so) vain?! You should be!
In today’s online world, you need to see how the world wide web sees you. Specifically, Google! Go ahead! Be vain!
It’s called a Vanity Search. Search for your personal name (long and short: ie Andy Wilson vs Andrew Wilson) if you are your brand, then search for your business name and any other business words related to your industry to see where and how you rank. Note any review sites that have you listed and be sure that they have the correct contact information.
Here’s what Google is looking for:
1. Does your business show up as a ‘place’? You know…that red dot that appears next to your business name and description?
Search for your business name and location, ie: andrew wilson studios hiram gaTo solve #1, first search for your business name and location, ie: andrew wilson studios hiram ga
2. You should be ranking in the top 5 for your business name.
3. You should be ranking in the top 2-3 pages for your business industry {plus any specializations} + location (ie. wedding photography hiram ga) unless you are in a large city with tremendous competition.
Click on ‘Feedback’ and see what others have written about you. If the reviews are blank, your homework is to ask 5 of your recent clients to review your services.
If you cannot find your business, go to http://places.google.com to claim your business.
To solve #2 and #3, the cost is higher. You need to be ready to pay for Search Engine Optimization and/or a Marketing Tune-Up. I will address those options later – I really dislike long posts, so I’ll just end it here.
I’m completing my homework right now… won’t you please review me?
